Level II Psychosocial Conditions: Deer Run Rehabilitation
Location: Midland, MI
Setting: Adult Foster Care
Ages: 22 to 70 Years
Diagnoses: Traumatic Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Dementia, Developmental Delay
Interventions: ADLs, IADLs, Social Participation, PNF Patterns, PROM and AROM, Self-ROM Education, NDT techniques, Facilitation and Inhibition Techniques, Communication Management, Cognitive Recall Strategies, Wheelchair Mobility Training, Splinting, Moist Heat, Therapeutic Ultrasound, Electrical Stimulation
Description: As a student occupational therapy intern, my role within this setting was to provide client-centered treatment to clients 3-5 days per week. The opportunity for evaluating clients was limited as the majority of clients were already established and living within the facility upon my arrival. As a new face in the facility, the most important task for me was to build rapport with each client. Gaining each client's trust allowed me to uncover their motivation and perspective, which in turn led to productive treatment sessions. I gained experience with entrepreneurship, direct billing protocols, and composing letters of justification for services rendered to insurance companies.
